The training programs ARC conducts on location in Anchorage, Alaska, with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, cover a broad range of business-related fields from MBA instructor to specialized project management training. Future plans include new community and rural development programs.

Advanced Business Management (MBA Level) Instructor Training

ARC’s newest program builds graduate level business management education and training capacity in the Russian Far East by training faculty of select Russian universities to teach MBA level Business Administration courses. Training focuses on graduate-level instructional methods and ways in which to draw theory and practice in classes closer together. Approaches taught include:

  • developing and using case studies
  • using business games and exercises
  • managing auditorium discussions with MBA students
  • including student project presentations in front of the class (defense, discussion and feedback)
  • providing students with advisors
  • inviting practitioners (single lectures, round tables, debates over business practices)
  • developing and using business incubators
  • developing and using business clinics

Regional SME Development Team Training

ARC also is building business training capacity in Russia by preparing Regional Small/Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Teams to promote SME development in the RFE. ARC is bringing regional teams of local SME development specialists, bankers, business association representatives and trainers to Anchorage for intensive training on small/medium business development best practices. Meetings with professionals from local SME development organizations, banks, and government agencies complement lectures by university faculty to provide practical examples of support for SME development to course participants. Practitioners encourage attendees to meet with them individually outside of class to enhance the depth of learning throughout the course.

Oil and Gas Project Management Training

ARC conducts intensive project management training for Russian oil industry managers. ARC courses teach basic and intermediate project management courses to teach senior Russian speaking oil industry managers. Topics include:

  • cost estimating and controls
  • project plan development
  • quality control
  • oil spill management
  • managing technical personnel
  • process technology
  • reducing accidents/ environmental damage
  • change management
  • PM software

Oil and Gas Logistics Management Training

Using Alaskan logistics companies and the logistics faculty of the University of Alaska, ARC conducts executive training for senior Russian logistics managers to expose them to the latest management tools and best practices, improving logistical support to major construction and technical projects.

Technical Training

Through other branches of the University of Alaska, ARC has the capability to conduct technical training course targeted at a clientele of Russian private companies and other agencies. Topics include:

  • airport management/aviation dispatch
  • public administration
  • cold weather construction methods and materials
  • well control and oilfield/platform skills
  • oilfield safety/survival/hazardous material training

Community Development (Future Direction)

ARC has the expertise and capacity to organize intensive community development programs for Russian professionals and entrepreneurs designed to further the development of civil society, essential social and health services and a free market economy in the RFE. Programs focus on the development of social and health services and civil society institutions to improve the health and quality of life for residents of the RFE and develop local mechanisms to improve living standards.

Rural Development Programs (Future Direction)

ARC also has the capacity to implement and manage a broad range of economic development, humanitarian aid and civil society programs in the rural areas of the Russian Far East. The overall goal of these programs is to develop subsistence, business, and administrative skills in rural communities in the Russian Far East, enabling them to manage their resources and function effectively without extensive outside support.
